7/31/2011 6:30:14 AM | With the recent loss of Elmer (Gene) Browning, Ball Gunner, 615th Squadron. The crew of Elmer Gillespie is once again flying high above us. I learned so much from this gentleman about my father and their exploits during their time together, it is hard for me to think about not hearing more tidbits of information from Gene's memory of those many years ago. My father never talked about the missions they flew, so to read his book and talk with Gene I felt like my father was with us. Best regards to his wife, Melba. Bill Gillespie

7/31/2011 6:06:42 PM | Well I am very sorry to hear this news, Melba and I have been in contact for at least 2 to 3 years now. They have provided the Group with a copy of his book and we have had many discussions about the crew. As any other loss of the members of the 401st Bomb Group this leaves me just as saddended and a loss in my heart. Don Byers
