12/27/2003 7:30:23 PM | my father just passed away dec 13 2003. he was buried with full honors. i'm trying to find out or hear from anyone who flew on the "heavenly body". the B-17 he was navigator for. would like to obtain any flight crew or pictures of the aircraft. thank you, bruce ligon(son)

First, my condolences on the loss of your father. We owe these men so much respect and love.
My dad was on the ground crew of a B17 named the "Heavenly Body"; his was lost after over 70 missions due to flack. There were obviously more than one plane to bear this name. Dad was Master Sergeant Willis Vern Dawkins; he was in the 401st Bomb Group 612th Bomb Squad stationed in Deenthorpe. We do have a few pictures of Dad and some of the ground crew in front of the "Heavenly Body" painting on the plane but no full plane photos. We know nothing about the flight crew on either of his planes....I have been told by more than one person that contact between the flight crews and the ground crews was kept to a minimum. Maybe it had to do with security.
I wish you well in finding info on your father.
