of 11th September 1944. I know, the 401st BG flew
a mission this day, by my information at least one your
plane force landed on continental Europe, but I have no
more information. I would very glad know more about your
mission on that day.

11/5/2001 4:05:50 PM | The 401st Mission for the 11/9/44 was to Merseburg, and the mission leader for the 401st was major W C garland.
The 401st lost one aircraft, 42-31091 'maggie', 615th squadron.1st Lt M R Wingard, pilot, 1st Lt RJ Abresh, co-pilot, 1st Lt RF Sullivan, Navigator, Lt W E King, Bombardier, T/Sgt E G Cicogna, Radio Op, T/Sgt, J C Rutledge, Eng/top Turrett, S/Sgt P M Winzey, Ball T, S/Sgt E A Chiariello, Tail Gunner, and Sgt B M Ingram, waist gunner.
The aircraft was hit by flak,in or by the co-pilots seat.

11/5/2001 7:26:13 PM | I agree with Dave. My Dad's records indicate that he flew on a mission to Merseburg on September 11, 1944. The only notation he made was "Here we go again!"
I note that his crew flew to Merseburg on July 29, 1944 and a tire on the landing gear was ruptured by flak. Maybe that explains his notation for the 9/11/44 mission.

12/2/2001 3:06:12 PM | I believe that was the day my father-in-law was shot down and captured. Plane was "Lucky Lois" I believe. If I can be of more assistance I will did out my records.

12/22/2001 9:12:20 PM | wasnt the plane from the 401st, 615th division hit that day as well known as "be there baby" as it went out on that mission too
