I have "updated" the forum look. This new look, I think, is a little nicer and cleaner. It also resizes to the the size of your display, filling in the margins to the left and the right.

Unfortunately, I have a bug that I can quite figure out with it and I am in the process of trying to track it down. This bug only occurs when using Internet Explorer, it doesn't appear on Firefox. I haven't had a chance to test it on other browsers. For this reason, rather than making it the default style, I'm making it optional until I'm finished working on it.

I'm also not going to tell anyone what that bug is. Instead, I'm inviting anyone who wants to, to select the new style and let me know if you can find it (or any others). If you do find anything wrong with the style, feel free to post your comments here. I'll fix what I can.

If you wish to try the new style, simply follow these instructions:

  1. Click on your user control panel.

  2. Select the Board Preferences tab.

  3. Find the property labeled "My board style."

  4. Choose "401stBlue2."

  5. Hit the Submit button.

  6. Your browser should reload with the new style.

As always, enjoy. And feel free to post your questions, comments, criticisms and concerns.

Well, using IE, the current date and time at the top of the page is displaced, and the Post Reply page has a few border errors and a bar halfway across the page.... 😉

Other than that, it looks ok to me.

Keep up the good work mate,
Paul

The only thing I see so far in IE is that when you try to post a reply you get this bar half way across the screen and the green border has a flaw in it. Is their something else that you see?

Ed, I like this style very much and look forward having it as a defauly.

Blast, I knew it wasn't quite ready for prime time. And that's why I put it out to you guys, I figured you could probably find the ones I missed.

Unfortunately, I'm gonna get busy again, so fixing it may be slow. But overall, I think the style is better, more flexible and easier to read.

OK, I have a solution for the IE problem. From this point forward, no one is to use Internet Explorer... ever! 😃

And everything looks SO perfect in Firefox...

Just an update... believe it or not, I'm still trying to fix the problems with the new forum look in Internet Exploder.

But that's not what this update is about, instead, I just tested the new look in Google's new Chrome browser, and it looks fine. It was a quick test, mind you, but the problem we have with IE does not exist in GC. This suggests to me that the problem is M$ and not the new style.

But I also believe it is fixable in IE and since it's, unfortunately, the main browser on the web, I'm still trying to fix it. Still no clues though as to what is going wrong. I will keep trying.

In the meantime, if you use anything other than IE, the forum appears fine using the new style. I've tested it in Firefox, Safari and now Chrome. If you find any issues with these, by all means, let me know...

In the mean time, I'm going to make an extra effort to fix it for IE here shortly. So many distractions, so little time.

Ed.
