12/7/2008 3:11:44 PM | I conducted a short tour of an ice-shrouded Deenethorpe this afternoon for members of the Huntingdonshire Aviation Group.
Photos will be posted shortly, but there's one for starters.
The jeep at the back belongs to our very own Graham Bratley, who just happened to be passing. 🙂

Are you now an active member of the historical society? Just curious. When I mentioned you to Graham & Co last year for the Hard Seventeen trip, they weren't sure they knew you. I'm hoping that's changed now. If so, kudos, my friend. 🙂

Can I ask why the rest of the Historical Society were not informed of this visit, especially as I know Martin Jones who mentioned nothing to me. Did you get the landowners permission to take photos inside the buildings which is a no no and as a lot of the group seem to have been tresspassing I think the loss of the tower should be remembered. Not good.

12/9/2008 1:41:42 PM | I spoke to Graham before we went up to the airfield for advice on where we should and should not go, which was what we stuck to until we met the farmer, who kindly gave us access to those areas "off the beaten track", including the buildings in the fenced-off paddock.

12/9/2008 3:55:47 PM | I see, fair enough, my next observation in that case is what is the point of the Historical Society if we can't do group visits as a group ourselves? Maybe I shall leave the memorial cleaning to Ray and Graham, the visits to you and throw my lot in with the 384th!!

Dale, I apologise for the distress caused to you by this visit. Our aquaintance has only been fleeting and so I didn't consider letting you know about the day or indeed understand your wish to know of it. I expected Paul to coordinate this visit with all the necessary regard to permission and respect and I'm confident this was undertaken. Our attendance I assure you was conducted with equal respect for this airfield. Thankyou for your understanding.

No apology required, one thing service people understand is the need for teamwork and the problems loose cannons cause, my further participation in this field of interest is under serious review at this time 😢 . Bomber Command is of course different, got sort of "time in" there 😃 .
