George Menzel 2/17/2007 6:52:50 PM | Our records show the aircraft destroyed by the frag bomb explosion on 6/12/44 was the 614th aircraft IW-N 42-107210 known as "Becoming Back" in which seven airmen were killed . |
gd howell 2/18/2007 11:15:05 PM | The info I have on the accident comes from Mr Leland Stanford who was a gunner on the crew of GL LaFevor. He reports that the plane that exploded was his plane named "Mountain Dew" which my grandfather served on as navigator. He gave exactly the same account of the accident that the records show other than the aircraft name. |
Donald Byers 2/19/2007 4:06:59 PM | You must remember that some planes had more than one name. If you look in the history under aircraft you can see some that had been identified with two seperate names that may also be true here with a known member of the crew as a witness. Some how the second name did not make it into the records associating the two names to one aircraft. Don |
