| I have seen photos of various individuals taken at Deenethorpe in their flight gear. It is a head shot with a big white star in the background. I have seen one of my grandfather as well but only in a newspaper and it was a poor copy. Who has the originals or where can I get a copy?<br/> Jeffrey<br/>

| I believe these photos were taken during training in the U.S. prior to going overseas.  Maybe someone else can tell you if they were also taken overseas. I know they were also sent to the newspaper in the city which individual lived for a press release.  As to where to obtain them I would only guess the newspaper but that could be quite expensive for them to do a search unless you know exact dates and paper they appeared in.  The only other source would be the people who took these pictures at the airbase.  I have not run across a source for them.<br/>

| 1. Adam: The photos were taken at Deenethorpe - I don't know by what 'Unit' or 'Department', but copies were made available to the pictured men to send home (we have my Uncle's). <br/> <br/> 2. The 401st BG sent these photos with 'Notices for publication' about the men - promotions, casualties, etc. (we have that for my Uncle's KIA notice also);<br/> <br/> 3. The National Archives Still Pictures Branch doesn't have them - I've asked several times.<br/> <br/> 4. If you have the newspaper's name/date/page for the photo you have, you may be able to search for a newspaper's: photo file; bound volumes or microfilm to obrain a better copy. [Most newspapers have 'puged their old files and volums - some went to local archives, libraries and universities. You have to 'dig', but it's possible to find a better copy of the image of your Grandfather. <br/> <br/> 5. Check 'unlikely' sources - we found one of these photos of one of my Uncle's Crewmates in his 'hometown's' American Legion post.
