Tom A 7/21/2004 9:25:59 AM | Saw this on a recent Peoria County IL geneology list The Veteran's Administration has reported discovering 10 million duplicates of 20th Century Military Records. There records were thought to have been destroyed in a 1973 fire, which wiped out most Army records from 1912 to 1960 and most Air Force records from 1947 to 1964. If you need records that you were told were burned, you may contact: Veterans Personnel Records, GSA, St. Louis MO 63132. |

Tom A 7/22/2004 11:09:22 PM | With egg on my face, I admit I believed this post from the Peoria County list and passed it on. Sorry, check this link. It's a hoax/myth. http://www.iigs.org/newsletter/9908news/legends.htm.en I usually try to check these before hand. I got it forwarded to me from my sister, and was in a hurry when I sent it. It still Might be worth while to pass on that it is a myth in your news letter. I found one post on it dated to 1998. |
