My son who is now 8 is very interested in WW II and I can't give him any stories about his Papaw in the war. I have a picture that says group photo 401st there are 2 symbols on it a camera and a star with wings. His discharge papers say he was a photo lab tech and he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with one bronze star and one silver star; Good conduct Medal and Distinguished Unit Badge. He served with the 237th AAF BU. Kirtland Fld., N.M. He attended tech school at Lowry Field, Colo. I don't know what he did or where he did it during his service. He wouldn't say very much about it. I don't know what his medals mean (except the Good Conduct) I have a picture of him holding a camera and one of him standing under a bomb thats says 401st bomb group photo. I have another picture of him and 2 other guys with their pants rolled up and they are wet standing in front of painted palm trees. Dad was very tall and thin and he was funny. He passed away December 10,1998 14 months after his beloved Virginia. He was from Meadville Pa, they moved to Bloomington, Ind. in 1962, they had 7 daughters and he served from Jan 1, 1943 to Oct.23, 1945. Any information or stories you have about him I would love to hear. Thank you so much, Kathy Zimmer DeWitt (I am the 7th)(tabkat1500@aol.com)
|- | '''Terry DeWitt'''
4/26/2006 2:03:41 AM | Its a small world.... I was searching this site for any information on my father, Sgt Frank G. DeWitt, ball turret gunner on Duffy's Tavern, 401st B.G.,squad 613. I thought what a coincidence that your married name matches ours, originally in the U.S. from Ithica, New York region. I will ask my dad about yours in the next day or two depending where his memory is at.
|}
