Chris Carroll 11/3/2003 7:13:08 PM | Hi Don, I welcome any biographical information, or unit history you may have. Thanks for your help! Chris Carroll BA History NCWC |
Donald A. Byers 11/3/2003 9:24:59 PM | Crew Info Pilot of this crew was 2nd Lt. D.H. Stauffer you will be able to find the remaining crew and mission info from the Crew Listing and under the 614th. Page 108 of the 401st Bomb Group Book indicates that the pilot and likely his crew were trained on B-24's in the U.S. prior to going to England. They went to Stone by train to receive their unit assignments. They found they were going to Station 128 Deenethrope. The train stopped at Kettering which is the closest point to Deenethrope Jacob N. Shepherd the writter of this article indicated they jumped up to see what modle B-24s were at the airfield but all they saw were B-17's. They asked the Sarge where the B-24's were they also asked if they were at the right place and the Sarge replied Yes Sir this is a B-17 base. I'm in the process of trying to find out if a Squadron history is available for all squadrons and am shure there are. As I have one for the 615th but not the rest. These books were compiled by Vic Maslen from England. I found no listing in the 2000 Member ship Directory of any crew members. Again when you go to the crew listing and get to the correct page you will see they flow 18 missions. You will also be able to see info on each mission flown by clicking the target for each missions. If I come up with anything else I will let you know. Don Byers |
Chris Carroll 11/5/2003 1:43:00 PM | Hi Don, thanks for your help, by looking at each crew listing I see Tuchin also served under 1st Lt E.E. Hoemann in Late Dec 44 till mid Jan 45. I saw a bunch of his WW 2 letters on ebay, in fact I got 36 of them from Sept-Dec 1944. Others indicated he joined in 1942, but I don' know the content. Do you or anyone have any other info? Thanks Chris Carroll BA History NCWC |
Donald Byers 11/5/2003 5:03:47 PM | Have not found anything more at this time but will still look. Don |
Dale Anderson 11/7/2003 3:44:19 PM | Donald Byers posted a meassage that Howard Tuchin radio operator flew with D.H. Stauffer, which he in fact did, in addition he also flew earlier missions with E.E. Hoemann of the 614th sq. |
Chris Carroll 11/12/2003 4:35:47 PM | Who did Tuchin fly with prior to E.E. Hoemann? How many missions would one fly prior to going home? Was there a set amount? Chris Carroll BA History NCWC |

Otto G. (Buck) Hoemann 8/29/2004 6:38:39 PM | Chris My brother was Lt. E. E. Hoemann. He flew as co'pilot with Lt. N. L. Sisson For 28 missions. He then flew 7 mission as pilot with Sgt H. Tuchin as his radio operator. My brother went on to be a jet instructor and was killed in 1953 in a jet crash in New Mexico. I am now finding out as much as I can about 401st bomb group 614th bomb squadron. They flew 3 of those missions in Shade Ruff 11 and 2 in Becomin Back. Thanks Otto G, (Buck) Hoemann |
