Fred Corley 8/20/2003 8:37:45 PM | What is this "Blue Book" that I keep reading about, and how do you get a copy of it? |
Scott McElvain 8/20/2003 9:49:11 PM | The Blue Book is an annual that was put together after the war by a PR type from the Group named Closeway and distributed to members of the group. You can find them on ebay every so often, or if you do a book search, some booksellers occasionally have them. The group had them reprinted a few times, so there are reprints out there that just aren't quite as sharp as the originals. |
Fred Corley 8/21/2003 10:15:56 PM | Thanks. I'll start a search and see if I can find one anywhere. |
Donald Byers 8/22/2003 12:49:47 PM | The last one I saw on the rare books was going for $350.00. On e-bay I paid $100.00 for mine and there was a spurt for awhile when you could get them on e-bay and some went for higher than $150.00. Just depends on the condition or the person doesn't know what they are really worth. Don |

The New York Public Library lists the "Bluebook" under the author as: "Closeway, Gordon R., Pictorial record of the 401st Bomb Group, edited and compiled under supervision of Capt. Gordon R. Closeway, group public relations officer. Published by Newsfoto Co., San Angelo, Texas, 1946, 1981." 3. Note: the NYPL also lists the "401BG Directory", also by Newsfoto, 1947, but this is not the "Bluebook". Good hunting (and reading)! Win |
