We all know the meaning of this phrase "I came, I saw, I conquered" and AD-ASTRA-PER- ASPERA "to the stars through difficulties" I received some information recently which shows that this was the A2 Jacket which belonged to the enlisted member(s) of the Crew of Lt. Cracraft 615th BS. It was not assigned to any B-17 as a Nickname.

This clears up this as not a nickname of 401st BG aircraft but for the crew members.
Don Byers
Historian

Sgt. Donald C.
