This gave me the opportunity to explain about the awesome treatment dad received from the Belgians between exclamations of "No $#|+!" and "Really?" Well, now the company's taken my computer (and 144th scale B-17 stand) and replaced it with a lap-top. Laptops make terrible stands. So, because of this and because the 144th scale model I have doesn't come with a stand, I decided to get a better detailed model with a stand and ordered this from [http://www.flyingmule.com/products/DM-51004|the Flying Mule].<br/> <br/> Naturally, this doesn't look anything like the Hard Seventeen, so my next step is to remove the 303rd colors and Silver Lady markings and replace them with 401st and Hard Seventeen markings. My main plan is to simply repaint it with aluminum and then reapply the decals I've used in the past for my larger scale H17 models, but before I do that, I thought I'd post my plans here in case anyone has any better ideas (Paul? Paul?) 😃 on how to approach this. <br/><br/><a href='/p2769.ashx'><img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/wmSig401st150p.gif' /></a><br/> <br/> |- | '''Paul Bellamy''' <br/><br/><div class='poster-info'><img src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/Paul Bellamy.jpg' /></div><br/>3/8/2012 7:10:01 PM | Sounds a fair idea to me Ed.<br/> <br/> And I just know you'll be spending time blowing on the props to make them spin while you're supposed to be working... 🙂 <br/><br/>Paul Bellamy<br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/resource1.png' /><br/> |- | '''EDanaII''' <br/><br/><div class='poster-info'><img src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/EDanaII.jpg' /></div><br/>3/8/2012 8:57:25 PM | That's not true!.. I'll be holding it over my head, running around the office, going "vroom, vroom! Ratatatatatatat! BOOM!!! BOOM!!!" 😛 <br/><br/><a href='/p2769.ashx'><img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/wmSig401st150p.gif' /></a><br/> <br/> |- | '''donaldbyers''' <br/><br/><div class='poster-info'><img src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/donaldbyers.jpg' /></div><br/>3/8/2012 10:07:41 PM | I have one of those models it's "Blood & Guts" I'm also still waiting on the B-17 balsa wood model that I contracted with a guy 5 years ago now. He has been sick and in and out of the hospital. <br/><br/>Sgt. Donald C. I hate to say it, Don, but if you've been waitin' five years, maybe you might be waitin' forever? I think I'd be losing patience, myself. 🙂<br/> <br/> My new model arrived today. Very nice and detailed, I'm impressed with the quality of this plane:<br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/431344_3117846019830_1074891969_2933554_416322665_n.jpg' /><br/> <br/> Did some tests, and the aluminum is definitely painted on. I think first thing to do is is get some Tamiya paint and test it to see how it matches this paint.<br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/420773_3117846299837_1074891969_2933555_245823634_n.jpg' /><br/> <br/> If the paint matches, I'll probably mask the model and spray the tail first. If it doesn't match, I may have to spray the whole plane.<br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/423356_3117846859851_1074891969_2933557_1583411439_n.jpg' /><br/> <br/> I think the nose are will be the hardest to deal with. Both removing and replacing with the H17's nose art.<br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/422977_3117846539843_1074891969_2933556_1560004314_n.jpg' /><br/> <br/> Removing the aircraft codes may be tricky to, as those on the left side actually covers part of the star.<br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/424905_3117847339863_1074891969_2933559_1322823815_n.jpg' /> <br/><br/><a href='/p2769.ashx'><img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/wmSig401st150p.gif' /></a><br/> <br/> |- | '''donaldbyers''' <br/><br/><div class='poster-info'><img src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/donaldbyers.jpg' /></div><br/>3/13/2012 10:32:53 PM | I know, I need to call and see if he is out of the Hospital yet or not. Been in there like 3 months.<br/> <br/> Don <br/><br/>Sgt. Donald C. Byers, 613th Bomb Squadron, Togglier, 42-97344 Carrie B II, KIA 08/24/1944.<br/> |- | '''EDanaII''' <br/><br/><div class='poster-info'><img src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/EDanaII.jpg' /></div><br/>3/14/2012 7:12:32 PM | OK, I brought my other H17 Jr. home because it was painted using the Tamiya paint. This way, I can compare what the Tamiya might look like on the new plane. <br/> <br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/422594_3122516136580_1074891969_2935830_703618203_n.jpg' /><br/> There's a definite difference between the two. The Tamiya paint definitely does not have the shine and appears to be darker than the other paint.<br/> <br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/423462_3122516016577_1074891969_2935829_624785326_n.jpg' /><br/> Comparison of old (right) and new (left) Hard Seventeen Jr. for purposes of comparing the Tamiya paint (old) vs. the paint on the new.<br/> <br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/423186_3122515776571_1074891969_2935828_1978951489_n.jpg' /><br/> Since there's a difference in the paints, I may need to repaint the entire plane. I think I'll contact Dragon Models and find out what paint they used since I think it looks better. <br/><br/><a href='/p2769.ashx'><img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/wmSig401st150p.gif' /></a><br/> <br/> |- | '''Paul Bellamy''' <br/><br/><div class='poster-info'><img src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/Paul Bellamy.jpg' /></div><br/>3/15/2012 9:23:12 AM | Normal auto-shop aerosol silver should do the trick nicely... 🙂 <br/><br/>Paul Bellamy<br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/resource1.png' /><br/> |- | '''EDanaII''' <br/><br/><div class='poster-info'><img src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/EDanaII.jpg' /></div><br/>3/15/2012 9:22:56 PM | Good ideer... Grab some of that, another test for shininess and we'll see... 🙂 <br/><br/><a href='/p2769.ashx'><img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/wmSig401st150p.gif' /></a><br/> <br/> |}
