My name is Ryan Griffiths, great nephew to Cyril Irwin Martin. I contacted Don Freitas in the past in letters and his info that he provided was helpful, but ended up in a dead end.
I've misplaced the name he gave me, but Cyril had a jacket that he had painted his gremlin on. Upon his death one of the crew men approached my great grandparents and asked if he could have it. This man has sinced passed on and I'm trying to track it down for my grandpa, I know it would mean a lot to him.
If anyone knows what I'm referring to or could give me any additional info to help me in my efforts I'd forever be indebted to you.

|- | '''donaldbyers'''

9/11/2008 5:25:53 PM | Ryan Welcome,

It looks like your uncle was with the 615th Bomb Squadron and was on two crews the "Grumbling Gremlins" is at this URL [++c013061|http://www.401bg.com/history/crew.asp?cid=13061] and the other crew is at [http://www.401bg.com/history/crew.asp?cid=13242] The second one is "Freckles". If any of the names may be the person that you are trying to contact maybe we can find out more for you.

Become a member of the 401st BG at only $20.00 a year.

Don

Sgt. The Grumblin Gremlin picture on the 615th Bomb Squadron was illustrated by my uncle in fact. That's the picture that was on his jacket that I mentioned. If I remember correctly from Freitas' correspondence it was A. E. Atchinson, the Tail Gunner from that Squadron who ended up with my uncles Jacket.
Thanks again for your help.

|- | '''donaldbyers'''

9/12/2008 12:57:01 PM | I also looked in the 1989 & 2001 Membership Directory and didn't run across an A.E. Atchinson. I have to tell you that took a lot of something I won't say for someone to come ask for that jacket!!!

Don Byers

Sgt. Donald C. He looked up to Cyril so much and would love to have it. But I agree it would have taken a lot for someone to ask for it over keeping it with the family; and I doubt that the Atchinson family understands fully the impact that had on the family.

|}
