As you have probably noticed the forum has a new look!

We have Ed Dana to thank - this is the first of what we hope will be many contributions made by Ed -

Let him know how much you like it!

Thanks, Andy. 🙂

I think the site was a little slow because you were browsing at the same time Kele was uploading the style. If it persists, then I'll tweak the style and see if we can speed it up.

@ All

Please feel free to criticize this style. I'm definitely not so sensitive I can't handle a little criticism, and, more importantly, I want to do the best I can to improve the look.

Already there are some issues, the images I used on my local testing site were fine for my smaller version. On the official site, they're not quite right, so some tinkering is definitely in order.

Ed,

The forum looks great. You have done a wonderful job with it. It did load a little slow, but that may improve as this was the first time I had accessed the new look.

Ed,

Th shield looks great as does the plane. Is there a way to enhance (or make a little larger) the squadron patches and the title words (401st etc....maybe a little bolder) a little?

This is just a thought....you do great work!

OK, I made a quick tweak and eliminated (for now) the image that was not displaying correctly.

Jackie,

Do you mean the "401st Bomb Group" title? Yes, I can make it larger. But too large, and it will cover the shield and plane. As to the squadron patches, if you were to measure them, they take the same space on the right that the shield takes on the left. I did this to keep the image balanced. I can try enlarging them, but I don't want them to take any more space than on the right as they do now. Give me a couple days and I'll make a test image.

Ed.

As per Jackie's request, I've played with the logo a little bit:

Click on the image to see all of it.

I've made the Association name as large as I can without covering something else up. I've increased the size of the squadron emblems also as much as I can. It looks a little crowded to me, but I don't have too much problem with it.

If no one objects (not that I expect anyone too), Kele can copy it to the imageset directory when she's ready.

Enjoy! 🙂

The forum does seem to be slow, but I don't think it's the new look. To test that, I switched my board settings back to the original style, and things still appear to be loading slowly. Could be the server, or the MySQL database. I don't have any way to test that though... I'll email Kele.

@ Everyone:

Andy pointed out in the Site Suggestion forums that the eMail link was missing. Don just sent me an email indicating the same. Curiously, I do have an email icon when I connect, so we have a bit of a mystery on our hands. Time to get Scooby and the Gang together and figure this out. 😉

Here is an image of how my browser looks when I'm connected directly to the site. Please notice the two icons to the left, a white envelope and a world icon:

Here's what I need to help figure it out. Regardless of whether or not you can see the envelope, please post the following information on this thread: Your browser(s), their version numbers, your internet connection type (hi-speed, modem, etc.) and, of course, whether or not you can actually see the icon. Please also report the absence of any other icons if you should notice.

Thanks for your participation.

Ed.

OK, guys. I have to ask a "stupid" question now. 🙂

When you took those screen shots, where you logged in? This is an important question. When I'm logged in, as I am now, I can see an envelope underneath everyone's name. When I'm not, my display looks much like Andy's.

OK, guys. Thanks for playing. 🙂 I think I found the problem. The functionality that enables users to email each other through the board is disabled. Not sure why. Only admins can email users by using the forum, which is why I can see the icon. I will email Kele and find out if there was a reason for disabling this function.

I just tried resetting the private email setting. Please try it again and let me know if it is working properly.

Looks like you restored both the PM and eMail functions. I just sent you one of each to confirm the functionality is fully working. Let me know. 🙂

Ed.

Edited to add: Oops. Brain-fart on my part. Since I could see the email icon, I could send you an email anyway. You did restore the PM functionality, however.

The better test would be for those who didn't have the email icon before to send Jackie or me both an email and a PM to make sure they are working again.

OK, I just received a response from Kele. Because of how the server is currently set up, it's probably better that the email functionality be disabled. Sorry guys. 😞

PM function has gone again, the various messenger contact functions don't work properly and all the Admins/Moderators except Kele seem to have reverted to standard membership.

All the best,

I don't know whether it's a software glitch, but speaking to Jackie tonight she's reporting that when she is able to log in, it's saying "there are no forums" for her to view.
