4/1/2009 6:30:03 PM | The 401st were part of the 1st Air Division, the HQ of which was housed in Brampton Grange near Huntingdon, about 30 miles southeast of Deenethorpe. This is where all Operations Orders from VIII Bomber Command at "Pinetree" (High Wycombe) were first received, and after planning were passed down, via each Combat Wing, to the Bomb Groups required for that mission. So, for the 401st, the chain would run thus: VIIIBC HQ High Wycombe > 1AD HQ Brampton Grange > 94CBW HQ Polebrook > 401BG HQ Deenethorpe. After WWII Brampton Grange became the Grange Hotel, which closed at the end of 2007 and it has been empty ever since. After a couple of failed applications, Planning Approval has now been granted to remodel the building into 12 apartments which will involve the demolition of one wing and a lot of alterations to the internal layout.
